Hocseat & Kontrast have teamed up to create an essential EP, perfect for the upcoming summer months. Hocseat, who hails from Paris, and Kontrast, who represents Bristol, have both had their own solo projects on Soul Deep in recent months. However, when teamed up together, they have combined their talents at crafting undeniable soulful grooves, which is apparent throughout the EP. The EP kicks off with the title track, “City Lights”, which combines snappy drums, a rolling, steady bassline, with swirling atmospherics, echoing vocals, and reverse efx. The song is followed up by the deep grooves of “What I Do”, which features classic chopped up breaks, melancholic pianos, a deep sub bassline, and echoing vocals that add depth to the soundscape. Hocseat goes solo on the next tune, “Soulmotion”, offering up a soulful slice of music for the dancefloor. The song features jazzy Rhodes chords, snappy breaks, a deep sub bassline, and sultry vocals. Lastly, Kontrast goes in on the remix duties of “Soulmotion”, and flips the track in a way that only he can do. The song takes classic breaks and tastefully chops them up, while adding intuitive embellishments at just the right time. The original track is flipped in a big way, but stays consistent with the overall vibe of the EP. Stunning. Summertime. VIBES!!
